Ribbon, was selected as a finalist from a field of 1,300 applicants from around the world. This innovative design is an all-in-one warming and cooling device for portable use. Its unique shape and flexibility allows for wrapping around a vessel containing food or drink, or to puzzle it together for use as a hotplate.
“I am truly shocked to have come this far, I did not expect it. All the finalists this year had amazing designs and it was a tough competition. Second place feels like first to me,” Enzo said.
Enzo’s inspiration came from observing the restless, ever-changing lives of those around him. He wanted to create something that bends and flows with the chaos both aesthetically and functionally.
“As the trend for home cooking grows, it’s often rather difficult to integrate it into our increasingly mobile, busy lifestyles. My concept tackles this challenge by providing the ability to heat and cool food with a portable device, but one that can be creatively shaped and reconfigured to adapt to any kind of vessel,” said Enzo.
Ribbon’s black side provides heat, while the white side cools. The rechargeable thermo-electric battery can also convert excess heat back into electricity for later use. Its functionality extends to the home as well as people on the move. The flexible design allows users to find creative and emergent uses, keeping up with changing habits and conditions.
Enzo believes this award will assist him in the future by both providing him with a valuable experience and accreditation. However, he’s not ready to settle down in to one area of design just yet.
“As a student, I’m not focused on one particular field of products. I love the variety and challenges industrial design brings. I hope to build experience as a product designer, and maybe someday start my own company, striving to design things that improve life in some way.”
